Naomi M. Cummings

Naomi M. Cummings was born December 15, 1937 in Pine Ridge, S.D. to William Brill and Dora Bettelyoun. Her daughter and other family members were present for her passing while at her home in Prineville, Oregon. Naomi went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2023 at 85 years old.
Naomi grew up around Long Valley and attended the Pleasant Hill country school. Her and her siblings would ride their horses to school then turn them lose so they would all go home for the day. She spent her days with her siblings out riding horses and exploring the buttes in the area. She used to love the Long Valley dances, rodeos, and family time. Mom and the siblings would take their horses the 30 mile ride into Martin to enjoy the weekends. When she was younger the family spent time in Emmett, Ida., Vancouver, Wash., and around the Portland Area. She attended Martin High School and graduated in 1957. She lived at her aunt and uncle’s house in town and returned to Long Valley on the weekends. This is where she met her husband to be. Naomi married Clarence (Swede) Cummings on June 8, 1957 in Rushville, Neb. To this union she had sons Robert, James, William, and Michael, and daughters Sandy Deb, and Theresa. They Moved to Gillette, Wyo. around 1967. She was always a very active women working at living her life for her family. She would load them all up in the station wagon for school, town runs, or an adventure day, or to the drive in movies. There was never was just a few kids - sometimes just hers but most of the time a lot of extra kids - her house was always full. Naomi always liked to go, no matter what her age was she was still going somewhere, she always loved to go with Clarence in the semi truck or a motorcycle on runs. Clarence would call, and the family would all load up and meet him somewhere. Then the kids became “bubba kids” and Aunt Delores and Uncle Bob were usually on call. She remained around the Gillette area until the 1980’s and later moved to the Big Horn and Sheridan area before coming to Prineville in 1988, with all of her kids and family. Naomi worked at schools as a cook, did motel work, worked as a hospital custodian, and was a caregiver and CNA at the nursing home for many years in the dementia unit in Prineville. She always loved being around people.
Preceding her in death is her husband Clarence (Swede) Cummings, sons Robert and James, daughter Sandy Bailey, daughter-in-law Rachel Cummings, granddaughter Mary Siers, great granddaughter Kerara Hicks, great grandson Clay Gray, her parents William and Dora Brill, brothers Chris, Clayton, and Clarence, sister Cecilia, and brother-in-laws Edward Dane Cummings and Robert Dixon.
Surviving her is sons William Cummings (Sundance, Wyo.), Michael and Marissa Cummings (Gillette), Theresa and Bill Siers (Madras, Ore.), Debby and Richard Hicks (Prineville), along with 20 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
Services were held at New Life Bible Chapel in Prineville on June 24, 2023 with Pastor Ron Hemphil.
Private Burial will be at the Juniper Haven Cemetery. She will be laid to rest next to her daughter Sandra Bailey and her son Robert Cummings.
